DISCLAIMER

For three months I worked as a volunteer writer for Honduras This Week, the only English-language newspaper in the country. The environment was very challenging for many reasons:

  • The Internet connection in the office was unreliable. I paid for access at a local Internet cafe.

  • I only speak basic Spanish, so I had to rely on a translator for assitance. I paid for that too.

  • The newspaper was underfunded and understaffed.

  • Gathering information in a third world country is not an easy thing to do. People often don't tell the truth or change the subject if they can't answer your question.

  • There was no editor on staff - except for my final story on smuggling (you'll notice the difference).

If some of my stories seem unneccesarily long, it's not because I can't control myself. It's because many times we simply didn't have enough material to fill the pages.

Please, if you notice anything that is incorrect or disagree with something you read, let me know.
